IGCC Development Perspectives

    Electricity power is high-qualified secondary energy, which plays important role in human society. Nowadays, over 70% of the electricity power comes from fossil energy combustion. Therefore, repowering existing coal-fired power plants to enhance utilization efficiency and reduce emission is the most reliable, most direct and most efficient method for energy saving and emission control. According to global studies and demonstration projects, IGCC is the development orientation for coal-fired power plants reformation.
    Since year 2009, experts in the fields of economy and energy from Erupt, America and China keep making speech on promoting this kind of clean energy technology. Some people predicted that these clean energy technologies will lead a new round of clean energy economy growth, and will take a great role in global revitalization like IT industry several years ago.
    In China, there are also some companies working positively in energy field to promote IGCC development and construction. Shandong Union Energy Technology, Co., Ltd. has investigated 100 thermal power plants since year 2006. With the help from the society and its own hard work, SUET successfully developed “High-efficiency Clean Regional Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle IGCC Cogeneration Process System” with national patent of invention and support from the government main leaders.
    The features of this process system are: basing on the coal resources of northern China and Shandong province and realistic heat and power demand of existing coal-fired thermal power plants, forming economic and reliable integrated gasification combined cycle cogeneration technology with the introduction of global advanced partial technology. Upgrading with this technology can cut coal cost (by 25%~35%) and emission pollution (over 90%). For a middle-sized thermal power plant, with this technology, annual water saving will be more than 1 million tons; emission of PM, SO2, Nox and CO will all meet the standards of Europe and the US; and the general plant efficiency will be significantly enhanced, leading global IGCC technologies.
